Refersion Pushes Affiliate Tracking Onto Merchant Shopify Domains

Refersion ships Branded Links for Shopify, routing affiliate clicks through the merchant's storefront domain rather than a third-party redirect. Affects programs on eligible plans.

Statement notes

  1. Refersion now routes affiliate links through merchants' own Shopify domains (e.g., yourstore.com/jane-doe) on eligible plans.
  2. Every active affiliate receives a Default Link automatically, pointing to the merchant's homepage, when the feature is enabled under Settings → Links.
  3. Per-affiliate additional Branded Link caps are plan-defined; the Default Link does not count toward the limit.
  4. Changing a path retires the previous URL with no redirect, requiring the merchant to notify the affiliate.
  5. Merchants currently using vanity links continue to operate unchanged and can migrate to Branded Links through Refersion support.

Refersion now serves affiliate links from merchants' own Shopify domains — paths like yourstore.com/jane-doe — retiring the third-party redirect that affiliate traffic previously passed through. The feature, branded as Refersion Branded Links, is live for Shopify merchants on eligible plans and routes every partner's URL through the storefront the shopper already trusts.

What merchants actually configure

Activation lives in Settings → Links, where a single toggle — Enable Branded Links — switches the system on. From that point, Refersion issues every active affiliate a Default Link, built from the partner's company name or personal name and anchored to the merchant's homepage.

Affiliates can be assigned additional links that point to specific products, collections or landing pages. Each link surfaces a "Redirects to …" label so the merchant can audit routing. Path changes are permitted; deletion of the Default Link is not — it persists for the life of the affiliate — though additional links can be removed with one of two outcomes: redirect to the homepage, or drop into a 404.

Changing a path retires the old URL. The retired address stops working and does not redirect, which puts the responsibility on the merchant to brief the partner before the new link goes out.

Tracking templating and UTM work

Merchants decide the link format once. The Default Path (Subfolder) field accepts a pattern built from a { } macro picker — options include company name, last name, affiliate code, affiliate ID and offer ID. Refersion highlights recognised tokens in the picker to prevent typoed paths.

UTM handling moves with the same model. Merchants enter parameters in Settings → Links → UTM Tracking Parameters, and Refersion appends them to every affiliate link. The { } macros also work inside UTM values, so analytics arrive pre-tagged per partner rather than requiring manual labelling.

Discount mechanics on per-link terms

When discount links are enabled in Discount Link Settings, Refersion applies the discount automatically to the Default Link of every newly approved affiliate — nothing to configure at approval time. Merchants can toggle the discount per individual Branded Link afterwards through Apply discount to link or Remove discount from link, letting a partner keep a plain link for everyday sharing and a discount link for a promotion, both on the merchant's own domain.

Scale, limits and migration off vanity links

Per-affiliate additional-link counts depend on plan tier — a fixed number or unlimited, depending on the merchant's plan. The Default Link does not count toward the cap. When an affiliate hits the ceiling, the Add Branded Link button disappears and an explanatory notice appears. Plan upgrades leave existing links intact; only newly created additional links feel the new ceiling.

Accounts currently using vanity links continue to operate exactly as before. Migration to Branded Links runs through Refersion support on request.

Compliance context the URL change raises

Routing affiliate clicks through a merchant's primary domain compresses the line between editorial content and commerce. The shopper's browser bar reads the store they intended to visit even when the visit stems from a paid partner. FTC endorsement guides still apply — any material connection between endorser and seller requires clear disclosure — and merchants should confirm disclosure remains visible regardless of how clean the on-domain URL appears.

What affiliates see

Affiliates don't configure anything. Their dashboard shows "Your Link" (the Default Link) followed by each "Redirect Link" with its destination page. The marketplace exposes the same links inside each offer, ready to copy. Refersion credits clicks to the partner behind the path.

Refersion's announcement contains no measured performance data — no EPC shift, conversion delta or A/B result accompanies the release. Vendors' own framing, in other words, not independent benchmarks.

With on-domain routing live for Shopify on eligible plans, programmes that previously pushed traffic through foreign tracking subdomains now face a competing default that promises simpler analytics pipelines and cleaner shopper perception.
